A near-fatal car accident in 2016 left him with 90% paralysis, dramatically altering his life. Despite the overwhelming challenges, Sandeep's indomitable spirit and determination led him to return to sports. With the guidance of his father, Surinder Singh Dangi—a former chief boxing coach at the Sports Authority of India—he resumed playing table tennis by innovatively tying the racket to his wrist

Sandeep's competitive journey began in 2018, and he quickly ascended the ranks of para table tennis. He clinched the bronze medal in the Men's Singles Class 1 event at the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, marking a historic achievement as the first male Indian para athlete to win a medal at the Asian Games. Additionally, he secured the bronze medal in the Class 1 category at the inaugural Khelo India Para Games in 2023 .
